Sticks Tigers roll over Penang Sports Club in top of the table clash

Date: 17 April 2011
Match: Penang Sports Club (PSC) vs Sticks Tigers at PSC

PSC batted first and started off cautiously on a good batting track prepared by the PSC groundstaff. The opening bowlers Kavintheran Kumar, with pace and bounce and Kubeyran Naidu, with swing and seam, probed at a steady line to both opening batsmen Darvin Muralitharan and Thomas Mathew. PSC managed an opening partnership of 76 before Kushan Asela affected an alert run out. Darvin was caught napping when he was on 38 and it was important breakthrough by Sticks Tigers. The fall of Darvin also was followed by the fall of Ramnik to a beautiful delivery by Kubeyran Naidu where a catch was held by wicketkeeper, Vinay Singh. That brought big hitter, Pavithren Nadaeson to the crease. Penang state skipper, Thomas Mathew welcomed back his form with some delicate shots through the off-side went for 35 and was caught behind similar to how Ramnik got out to another Kubeyran Naidu delivery. Pavithren upped the ante with 3 big sixes and it was desperately required at that stage in order to post a competitive total on the boards. Pavithren hit a brutal 31 off just 16 deliveries. P Sanmugaraja and Sanjaya Kumar provided some assistanceat the end of the innings with both men scoring 9 runs each. PSC ended the innings with 136 for 4 which looked like a competitive total. All the other Sticks bowlers, Shankar Goonasagaran(1-25 in 4 overs), Kushan Asela(0-25 in 4 overs) and Aaron Emmanuel (0-10 in 3 overs) provided good assistance with the ball to restrict PSC to that target.

Sticks Tigers started off very defensively in the hunt of 137 for victory. They were 10 for no loss at the end of the third over. Keithan Goonasagaran showed his class with some good batsmanship after the cautious start to send the PSC bowlers to all parts with Vinay Singh providing some valuable support at the other end. Vinay Singh had to retire out due to some fatigue on his part but scored a good 30 runs before that. Keithan continued his form with the bat but was stopped short by a Pavithren Nadaeson quicker ball which trapped him LBW plumb in front. Keithan hit 8 fours and 1 big six in his innings of 68 runs. Kavintheran Kumar played a good hand to finish the game off with Kubeyran Naidu whom were unbeaten at 21 runs and 10 runs respectively. It was a clinical effort by the Sticks Tigers to chalk their name as the big boys in the league. Sticks Tigers are sitting pretty at the top of the table with PSC coming in second.

PSC: 136 for 4 off 20 overs. Darvin Muralitharan (38 runs off 37 balls), Thomas Mathew (35 runs off 47 balls), Pavithren Nadaeson (31 runs off 16 balls). Kubeyran Naidu (2-20 off 4 overs), Shankar Goonasagaran (1-25 off 4 overs)
Sticks Tigers: 137 for 2 off 18.4 overs. Keithan Goonsagaran (68 runs off 46 balls), Vinay Singh (30 runs off 40 balls), Kavintheran Kumar (21 runs not out off 19 balls). Pavithren Nadaeson (1-26 off 2.4 overs)

RESULT: STICKS TIGERS WIN BY 8 WICKETS
