LUMUT NAVY & FRIENDS CRICKET CLUB BOTH WIN ONE GAME EACH

MATCH: FRIENDS CRICKET CLUB (FCC) VS LUMUT NAVY
DATE: 9TH APRIL 2011
VENUE: PENANG SPORTS CLUB OVAL

FCC batted first on a beautiful sunny morning and had an early setback when they lost opener, Yasir Nazir when the total was on 6 which brought their gun batsman, Aamir Bhat to the crease. Aamir and Anis Khan provided some stability to the top order but Anis faltered to a Rudy Ismandy delivery where a catch was snapped up by Kamarul Afendi Ismail. The wicket of Shakeel Ahmad was soon to follow without troubling the scorers. The bowling of the Navy openers has to be acknowledged as Rudy Ismandy Haji Mansor and Nazirul Izuddin Abd. Halim kept the top order FCC batsmen thinking with figures of 1-11 in 3 overs and 2-15 in 3 overs respectively. At that stage, FCC were reeling at 24 for 3 and desperately needing a solid partnership from Aamir Bhat and Akbar Khan. The duo provided a good 35 runs partnership with Akbar Khan being the aggressor with one six over long on and three fours before being caught and bowled by Norzaifee Ismail. Aamir Bhat continued his run scoring for a while with some delicate late cuts but still lost wickets around him before he himself got out for a gritty 35 runs. Aziz Khan hit one lusty blow for six over deep mid-wicket in his innings of 13 runs off 18 balls. FCC were bowled out by a disciplined Navy bowling attack for 105 runs. All the Navy bowlers contributed with wickets with Norzaifee Ismail leading the pack with figures of 3-23, Nazirul Izuddin Abd. Halim (3-27) and Nai Pricha Soom Chock (2-18).

Navy came out to bat to a decent FCC pace attack needing 5.3 runs per over to win the game chasing 106 runs. FCC bowlers found their rhythm quickly and had the Lumut Navy batsmen on the back foot with three quick wickets. Navy were 9 for 3 with all the top three batsmen being bowled within 7 overs. Aziz Khan, Showkat Bhavani and Akbar Khan were the early wicket takers. Kamarul Rizal Hj Abd Rauf and Nazirul Izuddin Abd Halim had a good 24 runs partnership with Nazirul hitting 2 boundary fours in his innings of 18 runs off 13 balls before being bowled by Yasir Nazir. Navy lost wickets at regular intervals which stunted their chances of winning the game. However there was a big partnership by number 6 batsman, Kamarul Afendi Ismal and number 10 batsman, Adnan Yusof. The partnership was unbeaten at 42 runs. The two tried really hard to push the scoring rate up despite the loss of wickets and gave the run chase a good stab. The partnership almost secured victory for the Navy but instead they fell short by 4 runs of the FCC total. Kamarul Afendi Ismal finished with 21 runs not out and Adnan Yusof with 26 runs not out. Clearly, it was a day of the bowlers with Yasir Nazir picking up 4 wickets and Akbar Khan picking up 2 valuable wickets.

FCC: 105 all out in 18.3 overs, Aamir Bhat (35 runs), Akbar Khan (24 runs), Aziz Khan (13 runs); Norzaifee Ismail (3-23 off 4 overs), Nazirul Izuddin Abd Halim (3-27 off 4 overs), Nai Pricha Soom Chock (2-18 off 4 overs)
Navy: 101 for 8 in 20 overs, Adnan Yusof (26 runs not out), Kamarul Afendi Ismail (21 runs not out), Nazirul Izuddin Abd. Halim (18 runs); Yasir Nazir (4-26 off 4 overs), Akbar Khan (2-19)

RESULT: FCC WIN BY 4 RUNS

MATCH: MILENNIUM CRICKET CLUB (MCC) VS LUMUT NAVY
DATE: 10TH APRIL 2011
VENUE: PENANG SPORTS CLUB OVAL

Captain of the MCC team, Joseph Santhana Dass called the right side of the coin as he put the Lumut Navy into bat with the outfield being wet from overnight rains. A must win game for both teams as both seek semi final spots as the group stages nears the end. Navy started cautiously with Kamarulrizal Hj Abd Rauf and Azikri Azmi having to run their runs hard due to the wet outfield. Mohd. Nadeem bowled Azikri Azmi with a beautiful delivery and Navy were 17 for 1 after 4 overs. Kamarulrizal went on to score 24 runs with the other batsmen ably providing support. Support came in the form of Nai Pricha Soom Chock whom scored 15 runs. Small partnerships were built by Navy. Rudy Ismandy Hj Mansor scored 15 runs, Kamarul Afendi Ismail scored 17 runs and Nazirul Izuddin Abd Halim being their quick run scorer in the team, scored 16 runs. Navy never really found momentum in their innings and this was due to a disciplined MCC bowling led by Sugumaran whom took 2 wickets for 21 runs in 4 overs and Raja Hussain Taking 2 wickets for 14 runs in 3 overs. Navy managed to still scored a good total of 121 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.

MCC started off well with openers Mohd Nadeem and Mohd Farouk providing the team 20 runs before losing Mohd Nadeem for 14 runs trying to hit another boundary after managing to hit two fours in his brief innings before that. Purav Shah, one of the better batsman in the competition fell for 9 runs to a beautiful Norzaifee Zainal delivery which crept through between bat and pad which crashed into the woodwork. Norzaifee quickly got another wicket and then a mix-up between Sikander Kani and Mohd. Farouk caused a run out where Sikander Kani did not even face a ball. MCC at this stage were in a difficult position at 44 for 4 and never really recovered from that position. Nai Pricha Soom Chock and Norzaifee Zainal were the heroes of the Navy bowling with 3 wickets a piece. Other bowlers such as Adnan Yusof, Rudy Ismandi Hj Mansor and Nazirul Izuddin Abd Halim chipped in with economical spells and a wicket each. MCC was bowled out for 87 in 19 overs. Lumut Navy were ecstatic to have won the match as they knew the importance of the victory. MCC must beat giants, Sticks Tigers in order to remain in the tournament in their final group match.

RESULT: LUMUT NAVY WIN BY 34 RUNS
