PCA 2011 T20 League Update: PSC and MCC win over the weekend

PENANG SPORTS CLUB ( PSC) VS FRIENDS CRICKET CLUB (FCC) at PENANG FREE SCHOOL

PSC won the toss and rightfully elected to bat first. Openers Darvin and Thomas started off well before a horrible mix up resulted in Thomas being run out in the second over for 6 runs. The third wicket of Pavitheran fell soon after when he was bowled by one that kept a little low and that brought in Shahul, the captain of PSC. Shahul and Darvin batted out the remaining 16 overs and built a wonderful partnership and took the PSC total to 156. Both batsmen were in form. Darvin exhibited some beautiful stroke play along the way to make a fluid 69 n.o, while Shahul unleashed some powerfull hitting after the 15th over mark to make a very useful 76. Sulaiman and Showkat bowled well, without much luck.

FCC had to meet an asking rate of about 7.8, right from the start. A fighting start from the openers took the score to 10 in the first over before wickets started falling at a regular interval. Some key players in FCC did not click, especially with Aamir was trapped LBW early in his innings. Shakeel held on with a fighting 23, of as many balls and there was a late hard hitting by Showkat ( 20 of 9 balls ), but this was not enought to maintain the increasing asking rate.

PSC 156 for 3 off 20 overs. Darvin 69 not out off 59, Shahul 50,  Sulaiman 1/8 off one over and Showkat Bhavane 1/11 off 3 overs
FCC 99 all out in 16.1 overs. Shakeel Ahmad 23 off 23, Showkat Bhavane 20 off 9. Arjun Kumar 1/18 off 4 overs, Ramnik Singh 1/14 off 3 overs, Avtar Singh 4/20 off 4 overs

RESULT: PSC WON THE MATCH BY 57 RUNS

MILLENIUM CRICKET CLUB (MCC) VS AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCES (ADF) at PENANG FREE SCHOOL
MCC had to win this game if they were to stay in the running for a semi finals berth in the Penang Cricket Association T20 league. MCC batted first and posted a good total of 147 for the loss of 8 wickets. MCC started very quickly with the power of Muhd. Nadeem whom scored 21 runs off 19 balls. Purav Shah guided his team well with a calm 48. His runs came off 37 balls and consisted of 5 fours and 2 sixes. Muhd Waseem was there to support Purav Shah with a few lusty blows and scored a quick 31 off just 18 balls. MCC batted well despite the fighting efforts from the Aussie bowlers especially by Jason Breman with 3 wickets for 25 runs off 4 overs and Matthew Richardson whom took 3 wickets in his second spell to finish off with figures of 3 wickets for 35 runs off 4 overs. John Bamford also contributed with economical figures of 1 for 19 runs off 4 overs.

ADF started cautiously in chase of their target of 148 from 20 overs at an asking rate of just above 7 an over. They lost their opener Richard Turnley through a fantastic ball by Sugumaran which was caught behind by the MCC wicketkeeper, which put the ADF on the back foot while opening batsman Dean Leck had to grind it out for his 23 runs off 39 balls. ADF lost some quick wickets thereafter. Jason Breman was the top scorer of the ADF innings with a handy 37 runs and Mark Robertson contributed with 13 runs. However the target required was a tall one for the ADF and the team fell short of their required target by 50 runs. The top bowlers for MCC were Sugumaran with 3 wickets for just 3 runs and Muhd Nadeem with 3 wickets for 21 runs from their quota of 4 overs respectively. Joseph Santhana Dass also provided a decent bowling spell of 2 overs with figures of 1 wicket for 16 runs.
MCC 147 runs for 8 wickets off 20 overs. Purav Shah 48 runs off 30 balls, Muhd Waseem 31 runs off 18 balls, Muhd Nadeem 21 runs off 19 balls. Jason Breman 3 wickets for 25 runs, Matthew Richardson 3 wickets for 35 runs, John Bamford 1 wicket for 19 runs

ADF 97 runs for 7 wickets off 20 overs. Jason Breman 37 runs off 37 balls, Dean Leck 23 runs off 39 balls, Mark Robertson 13 runs off 17 balls. Sugumaran 3 wickets for 3 runs, Muhd Nadeem 3 wickets for 21 runs, Joseph Dass 1 wicket for 16 runs.
