PCA 2011 T20 League Update: PSC chalks up another win

PSC GOES TO THE TOP OF PCA T20 WITH A COMFORTABLE WIN

PSC won the toss and elected to bat first. The openers Darvin Muralitharan and Thomas Mathew started off well by playing some nice shots before Thomas Mathew was bowled by a superb Nazirul Izzudin delivery which turned and clipped the top of off stump. Pavithren Nadaesan showed some resistance by making 11 runs of 20 balls before getting caught at short midwicket. Darvin kept the scoreboard moving by hitting the odd boundary and rotating the strike well. Shahul Hameed made a brisk 30 of 20 balls with two 4's and a six. Soon after Darvin was caught at slip after a splendid innings of 53 off 52 balls. Avtar Singh and P. Sanmugaraja finished the innings with 8 and 16 respectively which took the total to 133. Nazirul Izzudin was the peak of the bowlers picking up 2 wickets for 28.

The Navy were struggling right from the start with both the in swing bowlers Arjun Kumar and Darvin Muralitharan operating from both sides. Darvin caught and bowled Kamarul Affendy of a slower ball which worked perfectly on a track that looked good for the batsman. Rudy Ismandi was then bowled by Arjun Kumar the very next over with the score at 13. Nazirul Izzudin was in at 4 and was caught behind the very next ball. Arjun Kumar was on a hat-trick. Unfortunately he bowled a wide before bowling Hj Jamislan for 0. None of the top Navy batsman got pass double figures. Kamarul Rizal and Adnan Jusoh played some good shots before falling even before getting the score pass 50. Avtar Singh and Pavithren Nadaesan cleaned up the tail by picking up 3 wickets and 2 wickets respectively. The Navy were bowled out for 71 runs in just 13.4 overs.
PSC 133 for 5 of 20 overs. Darvin 53, Shahul 30, Nazirul Izzudin 2 for 28 and Chandra Segar 1 for 2 in one over.

Navy 71 all out in 13.4 overs. Adnan Jusoh 16, Chandra Segar 14, Arjun Kumar 4 for 26 and Avtar Singh 3 for 17

PCA 2011 T20 League Update: PSC and MCC win over the weekend

PENANG SPORTS CLUB ( PSC) VS FRIENDS CRICKET CLUB (FCC) at PENANG FREE SCHOOL

PSC won the toss and rightfully elected to bat first. Openers Darvin and Thomas started off well before a horrible mix up resulted in Thomas being run out in the second over for 6 runs. The third wicket of Pavitheran fell soon after when he was bowled by one that kept a little low and that brought in Shahul, the captain of PSC. Shahul and Darvin batted out the remaining 16 overs and built a wonderful partnership and took the PSC total to 156. Both batsmen were in form. Darvin exhibited some beautiful stroke play along the way to make a fluid 69 n.o, while Shahul unleashed some powerfull hitting after the 15th over mark to make a very useful 76. Sulaiman and Showkat bowled well, without much luck.

FCC had to meet an asking rate of about 7.8, right from the start. A fighting start from the openers took the score to 10 in the first over before wickets started falling at a regular interval. Some key players in FCC did not click, especially with Aamir was trapped LBW early in his innings. Shakeel held on with a fighting 23, of as many balls and there was a late hard hitting by Showkat ( 20 of 9 balls ), but this was not enought to maintain the increasing asking rate.

PSC 156 for 3 off 20 overs. Darvin 69 not out off 59, Shahul 50,  Sulaiman 1/8 off one over and Showkat Bhavane 1/11 off 3 overs
FCC 99 all out in 16.1 overs. Shakeel Ahmad 23 off 23, Showkat Bhavane 20 off 9. Arjun Kumar 1/18 off 4 overs, Ramnik Singh 1/14 off 3 overs, Avtar Singh 4/20 off 4 overs

RESULT: PSC WON THE MATCH BY 57 RUNS

MILLENIUM CRICKET CLUB (MCC) VS AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCES (ADF) at PENANG FREE SCHOOL
MCC had to win this game if they were to stay in the running for a semi finals berth in the Penang Cricket Association T20 league. MCC batted first and posted a good total of 147 for the loss of 8 wickets. MCC started very quickly with the power of Muhd. Nadeem whom scored 21 runs off 19 balls. Purav Shah guided his team well with a calm 48. His runs came off 37 balls and consisted of 5 fours and 2 sixes. Muhd Waseem was there to support Purav Shah with a few lusty blows and scored a quick 31 off just 18 balls. MCC batted well despite the fighting efforts from the Aussie bowlers especially by Jason Breman with 3 wickets for 25 runs off 4 overs and Matthew Richardson whom took 3 wickets in his second spell to finish off with figures of 3 wickets for 35 runs off 4 overs. John Bamford also contributed with economical figures of 1 for 19 runs off 4 overs.

ADF started cautiously in chase of their target of 148 from 20 overs at an asking rate of just above 7 an over. They lost their opener Richard Turnley through a fantastic ball by Sugumaran which was caught behind by the MCC wicketkeeper, which put the ADF on the back foot while opening batsman Dean Leck had to grind it out for his 23 runs off 39 balls. ADF lost some quick wickets thereafter. Jason Breman was the top scorer of the ADF innings with a handy 37 runs and Mark Robertson contributed with 13 runs. However the target required was a tall one for the ADF and the team fell short of their required target by 50 runs. The top bowlers for MCC were Sugumaran with 3 wickets for just 3 runs and Muhd Nadeem with 3 wickets for 21 runs from their quota of 4 overs respectively. Joseph Santhana Dass also provided a decent bowling spell of 2 overs with figures of 1 wicket for 16 runs.

STICKS TIGERS VS FRIENDS CRICKET CLUB (FCC)

The Sticks Tigers’ skipper, Keithan Goonasagaran chose the right side of the coin before putting FCC in to bat to what seemed like a sensible decision. A fantastic bowling performance by young off-spinner Shankar Goonsagaran grabbing 5 wickets for 26 runs off 4 overs and Kushan Asela provided a fine bowling performance with 3 wickets for 5 runs in just 2.2 overs. Only Showkat Ahmad (30 runs) and Aamir Bhat (10 runs) got to double figures. FCC made a mere 67 runs all out in 15.2 overs.

Sticks Tigers did not find it easy going chasing the target of 68 runs. They suffered a mighty blow by losing Keithan Goonasagaran (national under 19 player) on the first ball of the innings, falling victim to Aziz Khan. Reza Ul-Haque (27 runs), Kushan Asela (14 runs) and Kavintheran Kumar (11 runs) were the only notable scorers. FCC fought really hard to defend their low total but could not defend it despite their effort. Akbar Khan (2 wickets for 19 runs off 4 overs), Aamir Bhat (1 wicket for 8 runs) and Aziz Khan (1 wicket for 10 runs off 4 overs) bowled good lines for FCC. Sticks Tigers crawled to their target of 68 runs for 6 wickets with only 1.4 overs left in the innings.
